No. 15 Men’s Volleyball Notches 3-0 Win over No. 7 Philadelphia Biblical

LANGHORNE, Pa. – In perhaps its best team effort all season, the No. 15 State University of New York at New Paltz men's volleyball team (17-11) added a signature non-conference win to its résumé, knocking off No. 7 Philadelphia Biblical University (20-9), 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-21), on Tuesday evening in Langhorne, Pa.

Philadelphia Biblical floored 32 kills to New Paltz's 29, but the Crimson Eagles were hampered by 23 attack errors in 82 swings, settling for a .110 hitting percentage. The Hawks committed just 12 attack errors all match in 64 total attempts, ending the evening with a .266 hitting percentage. Philadelphia Biblical collected five service aces compared to New Paltz's three, but the Hawks outblocked the Crimson Eagles by a 6-4 margin.

Junior middle blocker Kevin Stross (Port Washington, N.Y.) and junior opposite Mike Van Tyne (Rochester, N.Y.) each had a team-high nine kills for New Paltz, hitting .533 and .278, respectively. Senior outside hitter Keith MacDonald (Monroe Township, N.J.) chipped in with eight kills as well. As the primary setter, senior Andrew Cassius (Brooklyn, N.Y.) distributed 25 assists and logged four digs, while junior libero/defensive specialist Michael Dauernheim (Bay Shore, N.Y.) led the back row with a team-high five digs. Van Tyne led the front row on the defensive front with a match-high three block assists.

Philadelphia Biblical's attack was led by Justin Brubaker, the NCAA Division III leader in kills per set. Brubaker landed 19 kills on the night and compiled a hitting percentage of .250. Drew Dillon handed out a match-high 29 assists, and Brubaker added a match-high seven digs. Ethan Mawhinney keyed the Crimson Eagles' blocking efforts with a match-high three block assists.

New Paltz returns to action on Thursday, March 24, closing out its regular-season slate with a 7 p.m. match against the University of New Haven in New Haven, N.Y.
