New Paltz Men’s Volleyball Makes NECVA Tournament, Receives No. 9 Seed

Tournament Bracket

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – After chances looked bleak insofar as qualifying for the 2011 North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Tournament, the No. 15 State University of New York at New Paltz men's volleyball team went 4-1 last week, which included a run to the title match of the 2011 United Volleyball Conference (UVC) Tournament. As a result, the Hawks were chosen as the No. 9 seed for this year's NECVA Championships, as announced Monday by the NECVA.

New Paltz (20-12) faces the No. 8 Stevens Institute of Technology (16-11) in the first round at 6 p.m. on Friday. The Ducks will serve as host to the tournament, which runs from Friday, April 1, through Sunday, April 3, in Hoboken, N.J. The Hawks are 1-1 this season against Stevens, with New Paltz's victory coming in the semifinals of the 2011 UVC Tournament.

The winner of that match takes on the winner of the first-round clash between top-seeded Nazareth College and 16th-seeded Lasell College at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The field consists of 16 teams, and the championship match is slated for 1 p.m. on Sunday.

This is the Hawks' seventh appearance in the NECVA Championships. Last year, New Paltz also earned the No. 9 seed and lost to eighth-seeded Medaille College, 3-2, in the first round.
