ITHACA, N.Y. – For the first time in program history, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team (14-4) defeated Ithaca College (10-7), handing the Bombers a 5-4 non-conference setback on Friday afternoon at the IC Tennis Center in Ithaca, N.Y.

Senior Lindsey Garyn (Melville, N.Y.) won the deciding point at third singles, defeating Melissa Nunez, 6-4, 6-2.

Down 2-1 after doubles—sophomore Alli Esposito (Bellmore, N.Y.) and freshman Paige Munroe (Ann Arbor, Mich.) won, 9-7, at flight three—the Hawks responded with extremely strong play at singles. Cristina Nunez gave the Bombers a 3-1 lead after taking down senior Stephanie Schara (Huntington, N.Y.), 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, but Esposito and Munroe won 6-2, 6-4 and 6-2, 6-2 and flights five and six, respectively, to tie the score at 3-all. Sophomore Kayla DiPaulo (Liverpool, N.Y.) topped Kelsey Harness, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4 singles to set the stage for Garyn's match-deciding point.

New Paltz competes in its final regular-season dual match of 2010-11 on Friday, April 22, taking on Hunter College in New York, N.Y., at 3:30 p.m.
