WELLESLEY, Mass. - Sophomore Kayla DiPaulo (Liverpool, N.Y.) and freshman Sharyce Willand (Sparta, N.J.) won both of their respective singles matches to help the State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team (12-4) get back in the win column with a 6-3 win over Emerson College and a 9-0 win against Colby-Sawyer College on Sunday at the 2011 Wellesley College Tennis Invitational at Dana Hall.

Doubles play helped the Hawks established a 3-0 lead against Emerson with the most tightly contested match occurring at the No. 2 spot, as sophomore Montana Wilson (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and DiPaulo defeated Savannah Mosser and Alicia Pellegin, 8-5.

New Paltz and Emerson split singles points with the Hawks coming away with wins by DiPaulo at the No. 3 position, freshman Paige Munroe at the No. 5 position, and Willand at the No. 6 position. The remaining New Paltz losses were in extremely close matches as senior Stephanie Schara (Huntington, N.Y.) lost 7-6, 7-6 at the No. 1 spot to Lacey Russell and senior Lindsey Garyn (Melville, N.Y.) and sophomore Alli Esposito dropped three-set heartbreakers at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, respectively.

In its second match of the day, New Paltz had little trouble with Colby-Sawyer. The Hawks again got out to an early 3-0 lead courtesy of solid doubles play at all three positions with the closest matches being decided by a score of 8-3 at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots.

Schara bounced back from her morning match to defeat Hannah White, 6-3, 6-2, at the top position, while no other New Paltz singles players gave up more than three service games in their respective matches.

The Hawks will host their first dual match of the spring season on Saturday, March 9, when they take on Union (N.Y.) College at 1 p.m.
