AMHERST, Mass.
– The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team (16-5) saw its season draw to a close on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Amherst College, as the Hawks lost, 5-0, to No. 1 Amherst College (17-2) in the second round of the 2011 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship Tournament.

The closest doubles match for New Paltz came at flight two, as sophomores Kayla DiPaulo (Liverpool, N.Y.) and Montana Wilson (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) lost, 8-4, to Amherst's Mimi Bell and Natasha Brown. The Lord Jeffs needed wins at just flights five and six of singles to clinch the victory. Brown won, 6-0, 6-0, over sophomore Alli Esposito (Bellmore, N.Y.) at flight five, while Laken King won, 6-1, 6-0, over freshman Paige Munroe (Ann Arbor, Mich.) at flight six.

With the loss, New Paltz had its six-match win streak snapped.

Sunday's regional final between Amherst and No. 10 Middlebury College will be a rematch of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship semifinals, in which the Lord Jeffs came out on the winning end of a hard-fought 5-3 result. These teams also met last year in the NCAA regional finals, with Amherst advancing after a 5-1 win.

The Hawks' 16 dual-match victories in 2010-11 are the most ever compiled in a single season in program history, as New Paltz captured its fourth-ever State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title. Head coach Rob Bruley was also honored as the SUNYAC Women's Tennis Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his career.
