NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team moved to 3-0 overall (2-0 SUNYAC East) on the year with a 6-3 victory over SUNY Cortland (2-1, 1-1 SUNYAC East) in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) East Division match on Saturday morning at the North Tennis Courts.
The Hawks swept through doubles, but the Red Dragons provided a challenge for New Paltz in singles play. While juniors
Montana Wilson (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) and
Kayla DiPaulo (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) and sophomore
Paige Munroe (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) won at positions one through three of singles, Cortland prevailed at flights four through six. The Hawks' biggest win in singles action came from Wilson, who knocked off the defending SUNYAC champion at No. 1 singles, Loraine Jelinek, 6-4, 6-1.
New Paltz finishes off its three-day run of home SUNYAC divisional matches tomorrow, as it takes on SUNY Plattsburgh at 10 a.m.
