NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team (1-0) topped SUNY Oswego (0-1), 9-0, in the season-opening match for both teams on Saturday afternoon in New Paltz, N.Y. The Hawks lost just three service games in doubles and six service games in singles in this non-conference clash.

Juniors Montana Wilson (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) and Alli Esposito (Bellmore, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) won, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles, while junior Kayla DiPaulo (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) and freshman Devin Tracy (Great River, N.Y./East Islip) prevailed, 8-0, at the No. 2 slot. Freshman Jessica Schmidt (Commack, N.Y./Commack) and senior Juliette Brandon (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) won 8-1 to give New Paltz a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.

Wilson topped Nicole Leader, 6-1, 6-0, at flight one singles, while DiPaulo downed Hannah Rawlings, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2. Esposito, Brandon and senior Ingrid Maryansky (Forest Hills, N.Y./Forest Hills) each won 6-0, 6-0 at flights three through five, and Schmidt completed the 9-0 victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6.

New Paltz hosts all of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) East Division teams next weekend, as the four programs will complete their league schedule. The Hawks entertain SUNY Oneonta at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, to open up the weekend.
