Lauren Link’s Pair of Goals Key New Paltz’s Come-from-Behind, 2-1 Victory over Oswego

Box Score

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Sophomore midfielder Lauren Link (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West) scored a pair of second-half goals to lift the State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team (4-5, 2-1 SUNYAC) to a come-from-behind, 2-1 win over SUNY Oswego (2-8, 0-3 SUNYAC) on Friday afternoon in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action at South Athletic Field.

Link evened the score at 1-all in the 42nd minute, sitting in a position near the left post and capitalizing on a ball in traffic. She then scored the go-ahead marker in the 65th minute, receiving a touch pass from sophomore defender Alyssa Stock (Morris Plains, N.J./Whippany Park) near the left post and rattling the back of the cage for what would serve as the game-winner.

Oswego's Kelly Collins opened scoring 27:38 into the tilt, taking advantage of an open cage that occurred because sophomore goalkeeper Antonija Pjetri (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) came out to steer away an errant ball. The Lakers were able to take the 1-0 edge into the intermission.

Oswego earned its 11th penalty corner of the contest as time expired in regulation, but the Lakers were unable to maintain control of the ball, giving the Hawks a league record above the .500 mark for the first time this season.

New Paltz held a 15-12 cushion in shots, while Oswego had the upper hand in penalty corners, 11-6. Pjetri was credited with the victory, turning aside three shots, while Julie Janusz was tagged with the loss after yielding two goals and making six stops in between the posts for the Lakers.

The Hawks conclude the central New York portion of their SUNYAC schedule tomorrow afternoon, as they take on SUNY Cortland at 1 p.m. in Cortland, N.Y.
