BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team (7-1, 3-0 SUNYAC East) swept SUNY Oswego (3-8, 0-3 SUNYAC West), 5-0, in the quarterfinal round of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Tennis Championship Tournament on Friday at the Binghamton Tennis Center.
Each New Paltz doubles team won its match by a score of 8-1 on Friday. Seniors
Montana Wilson (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) and
Kayla DiPaulo (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) defeated Nicole Leader and Kelsey Wilson at No. 1 doubles, while junior
Paige Munroe (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) and sophomore
Devin Tracy (Great River, N.Y./East Islip) knocked off Hannah Rawlings and Lauren Stall at flight two. At No. 3 doubles, senior
Alli Esposito (Bellmore, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) and sophomore
Jessica Schmidt (Commack, N.Y./Commack) were victorious against Olivia Knierman and Kelly Corwin, giving the Hawks a 3-0 lead after doubles play.
The Hawks needed to win just two singles matches to close out the match. Wilson took care of business at No. 1, defeating Leader, 6-1, 6-0, while freshman
Laura Tierney (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) took down Haley Miller, 6-0, 6-1. The rest of the singles matches did not need to finish, as the Hawks had already won the match after Wilson and Tierney's victories.
The SUNYAC Tournament continues tomorrow, Oct. 6, from the Binghamton Tennis Courts. New Paltz will take on SUNY Oneonta in the semifinal round, with the match set to begin at 2 p.m.
