Morgan Lizotte Notches Natural Hat Trick in Field Hockey’s 4-0 Win over Brockport

Box Score

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Senior forward Morgan Lizotte (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) of the State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team (8-4, 3-1 SUNYAC) scored a natural hat trick, leading the Hawks to their second shutout in as many games as New Paltz prevailed, 4-0, over The College at Brockport (5-4, 2-2 SUNYAC) on Saturday afternoon in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game.

Lizotte joins an exclusive club with the hat trick, as only six other student-athletes in program history have netted three goals in one game. The feat—which stands as the single-game program record—was last achieved on Oct. 14, 2009 when Stacey Miller netted three against Vassar College.

In addition to Lizotte, junior midfielder Lauren Link (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West) had two assists on the day, while sophomore forward Alex Gallo (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) and junior forward Alicia Aragosa (Schenectady, N.Y./Niskayuna) boasted a goal and an assist, respectively.

Brockport controlled play for the first five minutes before the Hawks settled in midway through the first half. Off a penalty corner taken by junior midfielder/forward Danielle Conklin (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) in the 17th minute, Lizotte poked the ball in, and Link was credited with an assist. That marker gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead, which stood up heading into the halftime intermission.

New Paltz went up 2-0 in the 41st minute, with Lizotte scoring again. Lizotte's second goal, which was assisted by Aragosa, came with traffic in the circle. Three minutes later, Lizotte completed the hat trick, forcing the Golden Eagles to take a timeout.

Brockport ended up taking three shots in a span of nearly three minutes midway through the second stanza, but Gallo scored off a deflection at 59:40 to put the game on ice. Link was credited with an assist on the goal.

New Paltz held a 15-10 edge in shots, but Brockport owned a 12-5 cushion in penalty corners.

Junior goalkeeper Antonija Pjetri earned the shutout, making four stops, while Kasey Schreiner permitted four goals and made five saves in the losing effort for Brockport. Elizabeth Hogan relieved Schreiner with 5:45 remaining in the contest and did not face a shot on goal.

The Hawks are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 10, as they take on the Rensselaer Institute of Technology in Troy, N.Y.
