EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming team ended up placing third out of 13 teams with 1,012.5 points at the 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Winter Championships at the Nassau County Aquatics Center on Sunday. The Hawks accumulated that point total across the three-day, four-session meet.

Chelsea Allocco (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) won the 500 freestyle, clocking a 5:08.74. Also in the event, freshman
Cassidy Griger (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown Central) touched fifth (5:12.98), sophomore
Kat Buyes (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./John Jay) placed 16th (5:26.24), junior
Kelly Durma (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) took 18th (5:28.87) and junior
Niki Ghostlaw (New Windsor, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) finished 19th (5:28.96).

Victoria Scalise (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) led five Hawk swimmers in the top 20 of the 50 freestyle, as she tied for fifth with a time of 24.90. Senior
Katina Lown (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot) placed 14th (25.52), freshman
Ella Graffin (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) took 15th (25.53), senior
Anna Jakubek (Harriman, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) finished 17th (25.73) and freshman
Zoe Papetti (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) tied for 18th (25.86).
In the 200 individual medley, four New Paltz swimmers placed in the top 20. Senior
Yuka Suzuka (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) charted an eighth-place 2:14.81, while senior
Carly Marshall (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall Central), freshman
Kim Kallansrude (Muttontown, N.Y./Jericho) and Jakubek came in 11th (2:16.36), 17th (2:18.96) and 18th (2:19.11), respectively.
The Hawk 400 medley relay contingent of Suzuka, sophomore
Colleen Stewart (Shelton, Conn./Shelton), Marshall and Scalise went a fourth-place 4:03.04 in the 400 medley relay, while the 400 freestyle relay foursome of Lown, Suzuka, Griger and Scalise finished third (3:37.29).
New Paltz returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 8, as it visits Ramapo College for a 1 p.m. meet.
