UTICA, N.Y. – The No. 12 State University of New York at New Paltz men's volleyball team (11-2, 5-1 UVC) continued to cruise along in United Volleyball Conference (UVC) play, as the Hawks won, 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-17), over SUNYIT (1-10, 0-6 UVC) on Wednesday evening at SUNYIT's Wildcat Fieldhouse. New Paltz is idle this weekend before facing off with No. 6 New York University on Wednesday, Feb. 29, at 7 p.m. in the Hawks' final home UVC match of 2012.
New Paltz hit at a scorching .615 clip as a team, flooring 37 kills in 52 total attempts with just five attack errors. In the second set, the Hawks found the floor on all but one swing, as they hit .938 with 15 kills in 16 total attempts. On the other side of the net, SUNYIT posted a .032 hitting percentage. The Hawks posted eight team blocks to the Wildcats' three, but SUNYIT did hold the upper hand in service aces (4-3).

Kevin Stross (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber) and senior opposite
Mike Van Tyne (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) tied for the match-high in kills with nine each, while sophomore setter
Misa Garo (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) dished out 25 assists. Sophomore outside hitter
Victor Tuminelli (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) collected a team-high four digs coming off the bench, while Stross finished with one block solo and five block assists.
For SUNYIT, Ryan Meller and Jimmy Keyes tied for the team-high in kills with six apiece, while Jeff Knapp kept the offense running with 19 assists. Defensively, Knapp shored up the back row with a match-high six digs.
