POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's volleyball team (12-6, 6-4 UVC) fell Wednesday evening to No. 11 Vassar College (11-7, 6-4 UVC) by a 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-21) margin in United Volleyball Conference (UVC) action in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
New Paltz played tight with Vassar, but could not overcome its cross-river rival on this night. The Brewers hit at a .289 clip, while the Hawks only managed to hit for a .220 average. The service game was close for both sides, with both having seven service errors, but Vassar was able to achieve two aces compared to New Paltz's zero.

Mike Van Tyne (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) and sophomore outside hitter
Brian Smith (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) led the Hawk offense with 11 kills each. Van Tyne hit for a .250 clip (11-3-32) and earned two block solos and a block assist. Smith hit for .222 (11-5-27) in the Hawks' effort. Sophomore setter

Charles Caldwell was deadly for the Brewers, earning 13 kills while hitting .400. John Konow was the team's leading setter, putting up 41 assists. Colin White-Dzuro and Lucas Rathjens earned the only service aces of the night.
New Paltz resumes play at the Endicott Tournament in Beverly, Mass. on Saturday and Sunday, March 24-25. On Saturday, the Hawks take on The Sage Colleges at 4 p.m. and Rivier College at 6 p.m. On Sunday, New Paltz faces Stevenson University at 10 a.m. and Southern Vermont College at noon.
