Yuka Suzuka Places 39th in 200 IM on First Day of NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – Junior Yuka Suzuka (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) of the State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming team placed 39th in a 46-person 200 individual medley field at the 2012 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships, clocking a 2:11.25 in the preliminary heats on Wednesday at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis. The meet, which runs from March 21-24, is cohosted by Franklin College and the Indiana Sports Corporation.

Suzuka showed she will a prime contender for All-America status in each of her backstroke events, as she split a 30.74 for the backstroke leg of the race. That split served as the field's third-fastest backstroke leg.

Suzuka next competes on Friday, March 23, as she swims the 100 backstroke. The preliminary heats are slated for 10 a.m. (ET), while finals are set for 6 p.m. (ET).
