ORLANDO – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team (9-7) took two unfavorable decisions on Wednesday on their last day in Florida, losing to Colby College (6-3) by a 6-3 margin before falling to Whitworth University (10-2) in a 9-0 sweep.

The Hawks opened the day with a competitive bout against the Mules. New Paltz left doubles play with a 2-1 advantage after junior Kayla DiPaulo (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) and freshman Devin Tracy (Great River, N.Y./East Islip) won flight two and junior Alli Esposito (Bellmore, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) and freshman Jessica Schmidt (Commack, N.Y./Commack) won flight three, both by scores of 8-6.

However, New Paltz could not hold its advantage over Colby in singles, as only sophomore Paige Munroe (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) was victorious, winning flight three, 6-3, 6-0. Colby's five wins in the singles flights locked up the victory.

The Hawks struggled to find any momentum heading into their nightcap with the Pirates. Senior Ingrid Maryansky (Forest Hills, N.Y./Forest Hills) came the closest to giving New Paltz a notch in the win column for the evening, taking flight five in singles to a tight third set before falling 3-6, 6-2, 10-8.

New Paltz gets extended time to readjust to the Northeast before returning to play on Saturday, April 7, when the Hawks travel to Schenectady, N.Y. to take on Union College at 1 p.m.
