Hawk Men’s Volleyball Splits on Day 1 of Endicott Tournament

BEVERLY, Mass. – In the first day of play in the Endicott College Men's Volleyball Invitational, the State University of New York at New Paltz men's volleyball team (13-7) defeated The Sage Colleges (15-6) in a 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-7) decision before dropping its nightcap to Rivier College (16-7), 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-23).

Against the Gators of Sage, senior opposite Mike Van Tyne (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) and sophomore opposite Brian Smith (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) led the team in kills with nine apiece, while Smith also led the team with eight digs. Sophomore setter Misa Garo (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) paced the Hawks with 32 assists in the victorious effort, as sophomore outside hitter Brian O'Connor (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) led New Paltz with two blocks.

Versus the Raiders of Rivier, Smith was the leading hitter of kills, with 11. Garo posted 32 assists for the second-straight match while O'Connor recorded a team-high seven blocks.

The Hawks finish play in the Endicott Invitational on Sunday, March 25, when they take on Stevenson University at 10 a.m. before facing Southern Vermont College at 12 p.m.
