CANTON, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team (8-3) opened up the spring portion of its 2011-12 schedule on Friday afternoon at Newell Field House against St. Lawrence University (4-0) and dropped the non-conference match by a score of 7-2.

Ingrid Maryansky (Forest Hills, N.Y./Forest Hills) helped the Hawks avoid being swept in singles play, as she bested Shannon Murphy, 6-2, 3-6, (11-9) in a supertiebreak at flight five. New Paltz collected another point in the doubles portion of the match, as the No. 1 tandem of sophomore
Paige Munroe (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) and junior
Montana Wilson (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) topped St. Lawrence's duo of Hillary Drewry and Elkie Vandenbeemt, 8-6.
The Hawks will spend their spring break down in Orlando, Fla., where they will face six different NCAA Division III teams across four days of competition from March 18-21.
