SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – After a grueling Florida trip, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team (10-7) returned to action on Saturday afternoon, besting Union (N.Y.) College (5-6), 7-2, in a non-conference match in Schenectady, N.Y. The Hawks led, 2-1, after doubles and lost just one singles flight.

The final score did not reflect the close nature of the match, as New Paltz won two singles flights by means of a supertiebreak.

Juniors Montana Wilson (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) and Kayla DiPaulo (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) won at flight one doubles, 8-4, while freshmen Jessica Schmidt (Commack, N.Y./Commack) and Devin Tracy (Great River, N.Y./East Islip) edged their counterparts, 8-5, at flight two doubles, which gave New Paltz a 2-1 cushion heading into singles play.

Wilson and DiPaulo won 6-1, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-4 at flights one and two of singles, respectively, while Schmidt cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory at flight five. Seniors Ingrid Maryansky (Forest Hills, N.Y./Forest Hills) and Juliette Brandon (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) won by means of a supertiebreak at flights four and five, respectively, while Union's Dee Dee Gaudian topped junior Alli Esposito (Bellmore, N.Y./John F. Kennedy), 6-2, 6-2 (10-5), at flight three.

New Paltz returns to action on Wednesday, April 11, at 3 p.m. against the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J.
