No. 7 Men's Volleyball Sweeps Penn State Altoona, 3-0

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The No. 7 State University of New York at New Paltz men's volleyball team (18-5) opened up the Stevenson Tournament with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-17) victory over Penn State Altoona (7-18) on Friday night at Stevenson University.

New Paltz cruised through the match, hitting at a .340 clip as a team. Penn State Altoona, on the other hand, posted a .186 hitting percentage. Neither team had much defense at the net, with Penn State Altoona holding a 3-1 edge in total blocks.

Senior outside hitter Bryan Weber (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) paced the Hawk attack with 11 kills, while junior setter Misa Garo (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) handed out 34 assists. Freshman libero/setter Kevin Nardone (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber) powered the back row with 11 digs.

For Penn State Altoona, Joel Becker posted seven kills, while Branden McGarvey doled out 23 assists.

New Paltz concludes action at the Stevenson Tournament tomorrow, taking on Eastern Mennonite University at 10 a.m. before squaring off with No. 9 Stevenson University at 12 p.m.
