PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team (4-1) suffered its first loss of the season on Friday at the Mendon Racquet and Tennis Club, falling, 7-2, to SUNY Geneseo (4-0) in a non-conference match. The match was moved to a neutral site due to rainy conditions on Geneseo's campus.
Geneseo swept through the doubles competition, needing a super-tiebreak in flight two to take a 3-0 lead into singles. Senior
Paige Munroe (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) won, 6-1, 4-6, 10-4 at flight two singles, while freshman
Veronika Paikin (North Woodmere, N.Y./George W. Hewlett) won, 6-3, 3-6, 2-2 (Ret.) in flight four singles.
The Hawks return to action tomorrow afternoon, as they face The College at Brockport at 1 p.m. in Brockport, N.Y.
