TROY, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team (5-2) was defeated by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (2-0), 8-1, in a non-conference dual match Saturday afternoon.
The Hawks had a rough time in doubles play, dropping all three matches. Junior Jessica Schmidt (Commack, N.Y./Commack) and freshman Veronika Paikin (North Woodmere, N.Y./George W. Hewlett) played the closest match, but fell to Kelsey Ham and Pooja Ganesh at No. 2 doubles, 8-4.
Singles play was just as tough for the Hawks on Saturday, but senior Paige Munroe (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) managed to pull off a win for the Hawks' only point of the match. She defeated Emily Laurilliard, 7-6, 6-3, at No. 2 singles to remain undefeated in singles play on the season (7-0).
The Hawks return to action tomorrow, Sept. 22, when they head to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to participate in the Vassar Scramble. The scramble is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
