PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team (2-0, 1-0 SUNYAC East) won its first State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) East Division matchup on Friday, shutting out SUNY Cortland (0-1, 0-1 SUNYAC East), 9-0, on the Field House Tennis Courts on the campus of SUNY Plattsburgh.

Devin Tracy (Great River, N.Y./East Islip) defeated Cortland's Shannon Gradotzke and Dilara Kumbul, 8-2, in No. 1 doubles on Friday. Junior
Jessica Schmidt (Commack, N.Y./Commack) and sophomore
Laura Tierney (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) also grabbed an 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles over Natalie Groves and Mary Claire Kopcienski. Freshmen
Olivia Ammirati (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) and Veronica Paikin (North Woodmere, N.Y./George W. Hewlett) rounded up the doubles sweep by taking down Leah Hathaway and Janette O'Keefe at flight three, 8-1.
The Hawks did not drop a single set in singles play on Friday. Ammirati grabbed a win at No. 1 singles by defeating Cortland's Grodotzke, 6-1, 6-3. Munroe dropped Kopcienski at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1, while Schmidt swept Kumbul at No. 3, 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore
Allie Starke (Binghamton, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) jumped up to No. 4 singles and defeated O'Keefe, 6-2, 6-2. Paikin took over at No. 5 singles, beating Hathaway, 6-2, 6-1. Freshman Elizabeth Palmer (Woodstock, N.Y./Cazenovia) completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Jackie Cartwright at No. 6 singles.
The Hawks continue SUNYAC East play in Plattsburgh tomorrow, Sept. 7, when they face off with SUNY Oneonta at 1 p.m. They will then take on SUNY Plattsburgh on Sunday in the 10 a.m. slot to close out their weekend.
