Box Score ONEONTA, N.Y. – Despite finishing with a 16-3 cushion in shots, the State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team fell, 2-0, to SUNY Oneonta in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game Wednesday afternoon at All College Field.
The result likely gives Oneonta and New Paltz the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds, respectively, in the SUNYAC Tournament, which would feature a rematch between the two teams in the semifinal round at All College Field on Wednesday, Nov. 5. However, with a few games remaining on the conference schedule across the SUNYAC, the pairings are not set yet.
New Paltz falls to 9-5 overall and 3-2 in the SUNYAC with the setback. The Hawks next face Morrisville State College in their final SUNYAC game of the season at home on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m. Oneonta rises to 8-5 overall and 4-1 in the SUNYAC. The Red Dragons host nationally-ranked Skidmore College on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m.
After a scoreless first half, senior forward Kelcy Forbragd put the Red Dragons on the board in the 40th minute, deflecting in a breakaway shot taken by senior forward Andrea Day. Senior back Sierra Earle was credited with an assist on the play.
Despite earning six penalty corners after that score and peppering the Oneonta defense with shots, New Paltz was unable to muster up a comeback, and the Red Dragons pulled out the 2-0 win.
