NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The No. 1 State University of New York at New Paltz men's volleyball team looks to bounce back after a tough loss against No. 6 Massachusetts Institute of Technology from Tuesday night. The Hawks will first travel to Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., on Saturday, March, 1, to take on No. 2 Juniata College for a 1 p.m. match and then Thiel College for a 3 p.m. match. On the following day, the Hawks return home an 11 a.m. match against Vassar College followed by a 1 p.m. contest against Dominican (Ill.) University.
 
RECORDS: New Paltz enters this weekend with a record of 13-2 overall… Juniata has an overall record of 14-2, while Thiel is 8-7, Vassar is 4-8 and Dominican is 5-6.
 
SCOUTING THE HAWKS (13-2): Prior to their game against No. 6 Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Hawks had been on a 10-match win streak... The Hawks were unable to fight back against MIT and received their second loss of the season, falling by a 3-2 (25-22, 23-25, 25-22, 17-25, 16-14) final... Four Hawks were able to reach double-digit kill totals in the match, led by freshman middle blocker Steven Woessner and sophomore outside hitter Tim Ferriter, each of whom had 13 kills... Following in their footsteps was sophomore setter Christian Smith and sophomore middle blocker Christopher Husmann, both with 11 kills... Also posting impressive matches were junior setter John Lutjen, who finished with a double-double (25 assists, 10 assists) and senior libero Victor Tuminelli, who had 16 digs.
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Woessner and Ferriter take the UVC's No. 7 and No. 8 spots for hitting percentage with .388 and .367, respectively... Ferriter also makes the top 10 in the conference in kills per set, sitting in fifth with 3.67... Also making a UVC top-10 list is senior middle blocker Dylan Rabidoux with an average of 0.47 service aces per set, which ranks him third... Woessner follows right behind him in fourth, with 0.45 service aces per set.
 
TEAM STATISTICS: New Paltz ranks highly in almost every statistical category in the UVC...They rank first in assists (12.02 per set), kills (12.90 per set) and service aces (1.69 per set)...They also rank second in assists (11.93 per set)... New Paltz leads all of NCAA Division III men's volleyball with its impressive assist per set statistic of 12.03.
 
SCOUTING THE EAGLES (14-2): No. 2 Juniata took on Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) rival Thiel and won, 3-1 (25-19, 26-24, 22-25, 25-23), on Wednesday, Feb. 26... The Eagles were led by junior outside hitter Paul Kuhn, who finished with a match-high 16 kills... Junior opposite Alex McColgin and sophomore middle blocker Chad Albert also posted double-digit kills with 12 and 10, respectively... Posting both a match- and career-high in assists was sophomore setter Carlos Faccio, who had 46.
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Sophomore outside hitter Matthew Kinnebrew leads the team in kills per set, averaging 3.29... Sophomore setter Matt Elias leads the team in assists per set, averaging 9.30.... Sophomore libero Brendan Smith averages 1.92 digs per set, while Albert averages 1.34 blocks per set... Albert leads the CVC in blocks per set, while junior Paul Kuhn is fourth-best in hitting percentage (.311).
 
TEAM STATISTICS: The Eagles are 6-1 at home and are on a four-match winning streak... Juniata averages 10.98 assists per set, 11.80 kills per set and 1.83 aces per set.
 
LAST MEETING: The Hawks fell, 3-1, to the then-No. 6 Juniata College on Feb. 16, 2013... Ferriter led the Hawks with 19 kills, while Lutjen and Christian Smith added 28 and 19 assists, respectively.

SCOUTING THE TOMCATS (8-7): The Tomcats are coming off a 3-1 (19-25, 24-26, 25-22, 23-25) loss against second-ranked and CVC rival Juniata from Wednesday, Feb. 26... The Tomcats were led by junior outside hitter Dylan Lasher, who finished with seven kills and 12 digs... Freshman opposite Regan Hess also tallied seven kills... Junior setter Charlie Tindall helped the offense with 14 assists and four service aces... Senior setter Corey Hamilton and freshman setter Zack Rombach added 13 and nine assists, respectively.
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Lasher leads the team in number of kills and kills per set with 130 total on the year and averaging 2.24 per set... Hamilton leads the team in assists, averaging 5.96 per set... Leading the Tomcat defense is junior libero Ian Phillips, who averages 2.39 digs per set, and junior middle hitter Michael Whitelock, who averages 0.93 blocks per set.
 
TEAM STATISTICS: Thiel averages 10.2 assists per set, 10.9 kills per set and 1.0 service ace per set... The Tomcats are currently ranked second in the CVC's East Division standings.
 
LAST MEETING: The Hawks edged Thiel, 3-2 (22-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-23, 15-10), in their last meeting at the Elmira Invitational in 2012... New Paltz posted a .405 hitting percentage with 66 kills.

SCOUTING THE BREWERS (4-8): Vassar fell, 3-2 (25-22, 25-19, 25-27, 25-27, 15-12), to New York University in United Volleyball Conference (UVC) action on Thursday, Feb. 27... Sophomore right side Reno Kriz and senior outside hitter Joe Pyne landed 16 and 13 kills, respectively, while junior setter Colin White-Dzuro dished out 39 assists… Freshman libero Trey Cimorelli and sophomore middle hitter Erik Halberg paced the defense with 14 digs and eight total blocks, respectively.
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Kriz leads the team in kills per set with 4.04, while White-Dzuro leads the team in assists with 8.52 per set... Kriz is ranked third in the UVC for kills per set, while White-Dzuro is ranked No. 6 in assists per set.
 
TEAM STATISTICS: The Brewers average 11.1 assists per set, 11.9 kills per set and 1.5 aces per set... Vassar is currently ranked ninth in the UVC standings.
 
LAST MEETING: New Paltz last beat Vassar, 3-0, on March 30 at the Vassar Tournament in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

SCOUTING THE STARS (5-6): The Stars fell to the ninth-ranked Red Men of Carthage College in their last outing, falling, 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-17)... Freshman outside hitter Jeremy Royko led the Stars' offense with nine kills... Freshman setter Alex Coyne dished out 28 assists on the night, while freshman libero Brooks Nevrly added a team-high 11 digs.
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Freshman outside hitter Zachery Sinn leads the team with 2.8 kills per set... Coyne averages 9.06 assists per set… Defensively, Nevrly leads the team with 2.64 digs per set, and freshman middle blocker Aidan Spangler averages 0.93 blocks per set.
 
TEAM STATISTICS: The Stars average 10.2 assists per set, 10.7 kills per set and 8.6 digs per set.
 
LAST MEETING: This is the first meeting between these two teams.
 

WHAT'S NEXT: New Paltz will travel to Elmira, N.Y., for the UVC Crossover on Saturday, March 8, where it will take on Penn State-Behrend and Medaille College at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively... Juniata plays at Stevenson on Friday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m... Thiel will travel to NYU on Sunday, March 2, for a 2 p.m. match... Vassar will play Bard College on Wednesday, March 5, for a 7 p.m. match, and Dominican plays the Stevens Institute of Technology on Tuesday, March 4, for a 5 p.m. match.
