NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – In a regular-season women's tennis match pitting the two schools that have combined for the State University of New York Athletic Conference's (SUNYAC) last 12 championships, the State University of New York at New Paltz fell to visiting SUNY Geneseo, 7-2, on Friday afternoon at the North Tennis Courts.
The Hawks (4-1) will look to bounce back tomorrow, Sept. 13, by hosting The College at Brockport at 9 a.m. The Knights (4-0) play SUNY Oneonta tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
New Paltz was swept in doubles action but received a tough-fought match at flight one, as senior co-captain
Jessica Schmidt (Commack, N.Y./Commack) and sophomore
Veronika Paikin (North Woodmere, N.Y./George W. Hewlett) fell, 8-5.
In singles, however, Paikin defeated her opponent, Amanda Rosati, 6-3, 6-1, at flight three. Freshman
Carol Tyson (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Rhinebeck) was victorious at flight five, winning 6-4, 6-4, over Karli Hollins and improves to 5-0 in singles action this year. Schmidt dropped a close flight four match, falling 3-6, 6-7 (2-7).
