NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team will compete in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) East Division Pool Play this weekend at SUNY Cortland.

SCOUTING THE HAWKS (1-0): New Paltz began the 2014-15 season with a 9-0 win at SUNY Oswego... Sophomore Olivia Ammirati won flight one singles, 6-1, 6-1... Freshman Brittany Grandville took flight two singles, 6-2, 6-0, in her first collegiate singles match... Sophomore Veronika Paikin won No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1... Senior co-captain Jessica Schmidt was victorious in flight four singles, 6-0, 6-0... Freshmen Carol Tyson and Sara O'Brien both won at flights five and six of singles, respectively, which also marked their first collegiate singles action... Schmidt and Paikin captured No. 1 doubles, 8-2... O'Brien and senior co-captain Devin Tracy won at flight two doubles, 8-1... Ammirati and Grandville won at flight three doubles, 8-2... New Paltz is guided by 17th-year head coach Rob Bruley.
 

SCOUTING THE CORTLAND RED DRAGONS (0-1): The Red Dragons fell to Ithaca College, 9-0, in their season opener on Saturday... Sophomore Michelle Coffey dropped a tough-fought flight six singles match, 4-6, 6-3, 3-10... Cortland returns junior Dilara Kumbul, who won a team-best four singles matches in 2013-14... Junior Shannon Grodotzke and Kumbul won five doubles matches last season... Cortland is mentored by ninth-year head coach Tom Spanbauer.
 

SCOUTING THE ONEONTA RED DRAGONS (0-0): This will be the first action for the Red Dragons this season... Oneonta went 9-12 last year with a 2-1 mark in conference action... Senior Brynn Sussman led the team with 10 singles wins, including eight at flight one... Sussman also recorded nine doubles victories... Junior Michelle Spencer chipped in with seven singles wins... Oneonta is led by fourth-year head coach Lonnie Mitchel.
 

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS (1-0): The Cardinals opened the year with a rain-shortened 5-0 win over Castleton State College... Junior Darneele Guerrier and freshman Taylore Perre both earned singles victories... Sophomores Jackie Ciriello and Sarah Dexinger won at flight one doubles, 8-3... Sophomores Kaitlyn Healy and Kristen Napper took flight two doubles, 8-2... Freshmen Shari Forman and Perre won at flight three, 8-1... Plattsburgh is coached by Annmarie Curle.
 

LAST YEAR AT POOL PLAY: The Hawks beat Cortland, Oneonta and Plattsburgh all by 9-0 scores last season to clinch the SUNYAC East Division's No. 1 seed into the SUNYAC Tournament.
