CORTLAND, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team clinched the number one seed for the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Eastern Division with Sunday's 9-0 win over SUNY Plattsburgh.
New Paltz will be the No. 1 seed from the Eastern Division for the SUNYAC Tournament, which will run from Friday-Sunday, Oct. 10-12 in Binghamton, N.Y. The No. 2 and No. 3 seeds will be determined after SUNY Oneonta plays SUNY Cortland on Sept. 26. Plattsburgh will be the No. 4 four seed. The Hawks will take on the No. 4 seed from the Western Division, which is yet to be determined.

Jessica Schmidt (Commack, N.Y./Commack) and junior
Allie Starke (Binghamton, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) defeated their opponent 8-2 at flight one.
Senior co-captain
Devin Tracy (Great River, N.Y./East Islip) and freshman
Sara O'Brien (Orangeburg, N.Y./Tappan Zee) won flight two, 8-1. Sophomore
Olivia Ammirati (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) and newcomer
Brittany Grandville (Tappan, N.Y./Tappan Zee) took flight three, 8-1.
Ammirati took home flight one singles, defeating her foe 6-1, 6-2. Grandville also posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory at flight two singles. Schmidt picked up a number three singles win, 6-0, 6-0.
Freshman
Carol Tyson (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Rhinebeck) was victorious at flight four, 6-0, 6-0 while O'Brien earned the flight five win, 6-2, 6-2. Junior
Laura Tierney (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) wrapped up the sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at number six singles.
The Hawks (4-0) gear up to play three-time defending SUNYAC champion SUNY Geneseo on Friday, Sept. 12, at 3:30 p.m., while the Cardinals (1-3) take on Union (N.Y.) College on Sunday, Sept. 14, at 2 p.m.
