NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's swimming team will travel to State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opponent Geneseo on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 12 p.m.
RECORDS: The Hawks are currently 4-2 overall this season and are 2-1 in the SUNYAC… Geneseo is currently 7-3 in dual meets and 3-0 in the SUNYAC.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS (4-2): The Hawks are coming off of a very exciting 138-124 victory over Oneonta on Saturday afternoon... New Paltz saw success early when their 200 relay team consisting of freshman Caleb Treadwell, juniors Ryan Lindgren, Ethan Cooke and Will Koenig raced a time of 1:39.57, which put the Hawks in first place… Treadwell led the way with a 22.75 leadoff leg… The relay also included junior Brandon Finn, Cooke, and Koenig – they clocked in an event-best time of 1:28.66…. Senior Jack Spader and Koenig won two events for the Hawks… Spader came in first place for the 1,000 freestyle (10:25.94) and the 500 freestyle (5:01.05) … Koenig finished first place in the 50 freestyle (22.18) and the 100 freestyle (49.15)… Junior Rob Taskindoust also had a come-from-behind victory in the 200 freestyle (1:53.02).
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS (7-3): The Knights recently defeated Oswego 163-125 on Saturday… Junior Jordan Gay won two individual events and swam on two winning relays… Gay was successful in the 200 freestyle (1:50.89) and the 100 freestyle (49.50)… Sophomore Kevin Schaub swam the fastest times of the day in the 100 backstroke (55.29) and the 100 butterfly (54.07)… Senior Kenny Athans won the 500 free (5:05.68)… Senior John Nasky bested the field in the 1,650 freestyle (16:27.85) and junior Andy Schunk was successful in the 200 butterfly (2:05.61)… Freshman Jeff Doser won the 50 freestyle (22.45) and freshman Jacob Cole was victorious in the 200 backstroke (2:03.59)… Freshman Scott Guyton had the day's fastest time in the 200 individual medley (2:06.83)… Freshman Sam Randall was undefeated in the diving events, sweeping the 3-meter (307.30) and 1-meter (315.75) boards on the day.
LAST DUAL MEET WITH GENESEO: New Paltz fell to Geneseo 233-117 the last time these two teams met on Jan. 10-11, 2014.
WHAT'S NEXT: This is the last dual meet for the Hawks before the SUNYAC Championships from Feb. 18-21, 2015... The Knights will be hosting the Geneseo Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 7.
