BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - In the tenth-consecutive meeting between the State University of New York at New Paltz and SUNY Geneseo women's tennis teams, the Hawks fell, 5-0, to the Knights in the championship round of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament held at the Binghamton Tennis Center on Sunday morning.
New Paltz completes the fall season with a 6-3 overall record while Geneseo captures its fifth-straight conference title and remains undefeated with an 11-0 overall record.
The Knights earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Tournament, which will be held from May 23-28 at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Mich.
In doubles play, sophomore duo
Brittany Grandville (Tappan, N.Y./Tappan Zee) and
Carol Tyson (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Rhinebeck) fell to seniors Cat Crummey and Marylen Santos, 8-1, in flight one. In flight two action, senior co-captain
Laura Tierney (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) and junior
Olivia Ammirati (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) fell, 8-0, to freshman Mako Tanaka and senior Mai Hashimoto.
Sophomore Lauren Salzano and junior Maggie Hale clinched the doubles victory for Geneseo with an 8-1 flight three win over juniors
Liz Palmer (Woodstock, N.Y./Cazenovia) and
Maryann Badura (Harriman, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury).
The Knights captures two complete singles matches to take home the title. Ammirati fought hard in flight one but fell to Tanaka, 6-4, 6-2. In flight four sophomore
