Meet ResultsSCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's swimming team finished third out of five teams with 84 points at the Union Relays hosted by Union (N.Y.) College on Saturday during its 2015-16 season debut, winning two of the nine events contested.
It marks the first time during the tenure of eighth-year head coach
Scott Whitbeck that the Hawks beat host Union in scoring in the swimming events only; with diving points included, the Dutchmen finished with 108 points to take second behind first-place Montclair State University (134). Vassar College (66) and Mount Saint Mary College (34) rounded out the remainder of the field.
New Paltz next visits Vassar for a dual meet on Friday, Oct. 30, at 6 p.m.
After back-to-back second-place finishes to start the meet, the foursome of sophomore
Caleb Treadwell (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland), junior
Austin Kowalsky (Bellmore, N.Y./W.C. Mepham) and seniors
Will Koenig (Highland, Calif./Redlands East Valley) and
Ethan Cooke (Middletown, Conn./Middletown) won the 200 butterfly relay with a time of 1:38.81. Just two events later, New Paltz won its second event of the day, as Treadwell, Cooke, Kowalsky and Koenig combined for a time of 1:29.58 in the 200 freestyle relay, which was nearly two seconds faster than the next-fastest relay.
