Women's Tennis Competes at Connecticut College Tournament

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team participated in the 2015 Connecticut College Tournament on Sunday morning in its final tune-up before the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament. New Paltz was one of four teams that participated, which included the University of Hartford, Trinity (Conn.) College and host Connecticut College. 

The tandem of junior Olivia Ammirati (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) and senior Laura Tierney (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) won their flight in doubles, 8-3, defeating the University of Hartford's Meredith Heitland and Hannah Goldman.

In singles action, sophomore Carol Tyson (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Rhinebeck) defeated Charlotte Marcoux of Connecticut College to win her flight, 9-7. Tierney also grabbed a win in singles play, overtaking Emily Sneddon of Connecticut College, 9-8.

The Hawks next compete at the SUNYAC Tournament, which will be held Friday-Sunday, Oct. 9-11, at the Binghamton Tennis Center in Binghamton, N.Y. As the top seeded team in the SUNYAC East, New Paltz will face off against No. 4 SUNYAC West seed SUNY Fredonia in the quarterfinals on Friday, Oct. 9, at 4:30 p.m.
