Day 1 ResultsCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's swimming team finished day one of the MIT Winter Invitational fourth out of seven teams with 74 points on Friday evening at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center Pool.
Friday's events—the 800 freestyle relay and the 1,650 freestyle—were swum as timed-final events.
Action at the meet continues tomorrow, with the preliminary heats beginning at 10:30 a.m. and finals commencing at 6 p.m.
The 800 freestyle relay team of sophomores
Matthew Kessler (Highland Mills, N.Y./Cornwall Central) and
Barrett Celecki (Barneveld, N.Y./Holland Patent) and seniors
Ethan Cooke (Middletown, Conn./Middletown) and
Will Koenig (Highland, Calif./Redlands East Valley) kicked off the meet with a 14th-place finish, charting a 7:19.59.
Junior
Rob Cahn (Bellmore, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) coasted to an 11th-place finish in the 1,650 freestyle (17:03.69), while Celecki checked in with a 14th-place standard of 17:19.83.
After day one, host MIT leads the team standings with 158 points, while New York University (second, 142) and Tufts University (third, 117) round out the top three.
