Day 3 Results (Prelims)Day 3 Results (Finals)CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's swimming team finished fifth out of six teams with 361 points following the third and final day at the MIT Winter Invitational on Sunday at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center Pool.
New Paltz's top individual finish of the day came from senior
Will Koenig (Highland, Calif./Redlands East Valley), who placed 13th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.47. Koenig also played a key role on both Hawk relays Sunday, swimming the anchor leg on both.
The Hawks will now take a month off from competition before swimming at the St. Pete's Classic in St. Petersburg, Fla., during their annual winter training trip on Sunday, Jan. 3, at 10 a.m.

Caleb Treadwell (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland), junior
Vitaut Gurskiy (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst), senior
Ethan Cooke (Middletown, Conn./Middletown) and Koenig kicked off Sunday's evening session with an 11th-place finish (1:35.78).
Junior
Rob Cahn (Bellmore, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) represented the Hawks in the "B" final of the 500 freestyle, placing 19th (4:54.72), while sophomores
Matthew Kessler (Highland Mills, N.Y./Cornwall Central) and
Barrett Celecki (Barneveld, N.Y./Holland Patent) and junior
Thomas Whittico (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) finished 22nd (4:57.06), 23rd (4:59.08) and 25th (5:03.43), respectively.
Sophomore
Marc Piliero (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill) paced New Paltz in the 200 backstroke with an 18th-place standard of 2:01.20, while freshmen
Yakhya Toure (Brooklyn, N.Y./International High School at Prospect Heights) and
Rory Neal (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) and sophomore
Tyler Newman (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford) finished 24th (2:08.32), 25th (2:08.59) and 28th (2:10.57) in the event, respectively.
Three Hawks cracked the "B" final in the 100 butterfly, as Cooke finished 15th (53.02), Treadwell took 16th (53.14) and junior
Austin Kowalsky (Bellmore, N.Y./W.C. Mepham) placed 19th (53.91). Junior
Luke Zenir (Cherry Valley, N.Y./Cooperstown Central) and sophomore
Kevin Sales (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) competed in finals for New Paltz in the event as well by charting times of 55.60 (24th) and 56.85 (27th), respectively.
New Paltz's deepest stroke was on display once again Sunday, as five Hawks scored in the 200 breaststroke, including four in the "B" final. Senior
Ryan Lindgren (Hurley, N.Y./Kingston) charted the team's top time of 2:12.46 for 14th, while junior
Matt Alfultis (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) and sophomore
Colin Duell (Glens Falls, N.Y./Glens Falls) finished closely behind him with times of 2:15.44 (16th) and 2:15.69 (17th), respectively. Gurskiy and sophomore
Chad Plante (Naples, N.Y./Naples) also competed in the event, with Gurskiy placing 20th (2:18.95) and Plante taking 21st (2:18.98).
Beyond Koenig in the 100 freestyle, Newman also swam the event during the evening session and charted a 27th-place standard of 50.57.
Sophomore
Nick Wills (Stratford, Conn./Stratford) posted the Hawks' top finish in the 200 individual medley (2:07.99), while freshman
Joe Galante (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy), junior
Nolan Graziano (Rhinebeck, N.Y./Rhinebeck) and freshman Griffin Camberdella (Ridge, N.Y./Longwood) placed 21st (2:03.09), 23rd (2:06.15) and 25th (2:09.34), respectively.
Finally, the 400 freestyle relay foursome of Kowalsky, Treadwell, Cooke and Koenig finished out the meet with an eighth-place time of 3:10.15.
Host MIT took home the team title with 1,624.5 points, while New York University finished second (1,230) and Tufts University took third (833).
