NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The No. 4 State University of New York at New Paltz men's volleyball team is venturing out to the Midwest for a five-match road trip in a span of four days from March 15-18.
 
SCHEDULE: The Hawks start their trip in Illinois against Benedictine University and No. 12 Dominican (Ill.) University on March 15-16. New Paltz will then compete in a tri-match on March 17 in Milwaukee against the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) and Lakeland College. Their trip will be concluded with a visit to Kenosha, Wisc. where the Hawks will meet No. 7 Carthage College on March 18.
 
RECORDS: New Paltz is 12-3, 5-1 in the United Volleyball Conference (UVC)…. Benedictine sits at 6-11, 3-6 in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL)…. Dominican (Ill.) is 11-7, 6-2 in the MCVL… Milwaukee School of Engineering is 11-9, 3-5 in the MCVL… Lakeland is 11-12, 5-3 in the MCVL… Carthage is 12-4, 9-0 in the MCVL.
 

21137SCOUTING THE HAWKS: The No. 4 ranked Hawks are currently riding a six-match winning streak, to which they've only dropped three sets… During this stretch, some notable victories include No. 1 ranked Kean University, (3-0) at home and No. 8 ranked Nazareth College, (3-2) at Vassar College… The Hawks are ready for this coming week after defeating No. 10 NYU in three sets (25-14, 25-19, 25-21) on Thursday night in the Hawk Center… Junior middle blocker Christopher Husmann finished the match with 11 kills, a .786 hitting percentage (11-0-14), two block assists, and one service ace… Husmann currently leads Division III and the UVC in hitting percentage (.541)… Freshman outside hitter Anthony Bonilla had nine kills, two aces, two digs, and one block assist… Junior setter Christian Smith ended the match with a team-high 18 assists and nine digs… Smith also had six kills, hitting .455 (6-1-11), including the 500th of his career… Sophomore middle blocker Steven Woessner and senior setter John Lutjen both tallied six kills.

The Hawks are tied for second in opponent service aces allowing 1.18 per set… They hold the number three spot in opponent blocks with 1.72 per set… The Hawks are currently number one in the all of Division III volleyball in assists per set with 12.15.
 

19802SCOUTING BENEDICTINE: Benedictine University is coming off a 3-1 win over Loras College on Wednesday night in the Dan and Ada Rice center… Freshman outside hitter Eric Tarnow led BenU with 16 kills and four block assists… Freshman outside hitter Charles Morell finished the match with 14 kills and only three errors, finishing with a .407 attack percentage for the night… Freshman setter Markus Riemer tallied 12 digs and had 38 assists to lead the defense to the victory… Freshman middle hitter Zach Loeding had six of the teams 16 blocks in the match and also contributed two solo blocks…. This is the first season of collegiate volleyball for the Eagles… Benedictine is led by head coach Dan Buehring.

10848SCOUTING DOMINICAN: The No. 12-ranked Stars will host New Paltz in the midst of a four-match winning streak, to which they've only dropped three sets in that span… The Stars defeated No. 13 MIT (25-18, 24-26, 21-25, 25-18, 25-9) on Tuesday night in a non-conference match… Sophomore outside hitter Jeremy Royko finished the match with 18 kills, hitting .471 for the match, and added 17 digs, three blocks, and two aces… Sophomore setter Alex Coyne dished out 51 assists, had 14 digs, and three blocks to finish the night… Sophomore outside hitter/libero Robert Mead collected 11 digs in the match.

19803 SCOUTING MSOE: To start the season, MSOE went 7-1 in the month of January… In February, the Engineers jumped to the other side of the spectrum, going 2-7… Nick Manning leads all teammates thus far with 3.42 kills per set, followed by Neil Naughton (2.71 per set), and Joe Humpal (2.37 per set)… The Raiders will face both Lakeland and Kean on Saturday, March 14 at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m.

19809SCOUTING LAKELAND: Some notable match ups on Lakeland's schedule include wins against then-No. 12 Elmira (3-0), then-No. 14 MSOE (3-1), and then-No. 15 Medaille (3-1)… In the month of March, Alex Redlich leads all teammates thus far with 46.5 total points, followed by Matt Stolz with 42.5, and Tim Robbins with 33… The Muskies will face MSOE and Kean on Saturday, March 14 at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.

7520SCOUTING CARTHAGE: The Red Men are ranked No. 7 in the nation… Carthage is in the midst of a six-match winning streak, to which they've only dropped one set… The streak is coming off a loss to then-No. 1 Stevens Institute of Technology (0-3)… During this span, Griffin Shields led all teammates with 81.5 points, followed by Jon Storm with 67, and Zach Lillig with 57.5… The Red Men will face the College of Mount Saint Joseph and Kean University on Friday, March 13 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Fontbonne University on Saturday, March 14 at 2 p.m.
