ORLANDO, Fla. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis squad battled Hamilton College for over four hours on Wednesday morning but fell to the Continentals 6-3 at Sanlando Park.
 
With the defeat, the Hawks move to 9-6 overall and will conclude their spring break trip tomorrow against Bethany (Minn.) at 6:30 p.m. Hamilton, meanwhile, rises to 8-1 overall and will face Hope tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
 
The Hawks earned their first three victories of the spring trip, winning flight one, three and five singles, and battled Hamilton in every doubles match.
 
Sophomore Olivia Ammirati (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) was victorious at flight one singles, defeating senior Mira Khana 6-1, 6-4. Freshman Carol Tyson (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Rhinebeck) won flight three, beating junior Bella Schoning 6-2, 6-1. Junior Laura Tierney (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) wrapped up the singles wins by defeating senior Rachel Friedman 3-6, 7-6, 7-6 at number five.
 
In doubles action, senior co-captains Jessica Schmidt (Commack, N.Y./Commack) and Devin Tracy (Great River, N.Y./East Islip) fell at flight one, 8-6, to seniors Liz Detwiler and Friedman. Freshman Brittany Grandville (Tappan, N.Y./Tappan Zee) and Tyson fell to Khanna and sophomore Claire Keyte, 8-5, at flight three.
