ORLANDO, Fla. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team earned its first win of the spring season, defeating Bethel (Minn.) 5-4 on Thursday afternoon.
With the victory, the Hawks improve to 10-6 overall and will next play at Ithaca College on Friday, April 3 at 3:30 p.m. Bethel moves to 5-4 and will compete against Northwestern (Minn.) on Friday, March 27 at 4:30 p.m.
In singles action, sophomore
Olivia Ammirati (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) was victorious at flight one, defeating senior Kristin Vivian 6-0, 6-3. Freshman
Brittany Grandville (Tappan, N.Y./Tappan Zee) picked up a flight two win over senior Abby Kreklau, 6-1, 6-1 and freshman
Carol Tyson (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Rhinebeck) won flight three, beating sophomore Kourtney Jakubic, 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles action, senior co-captains
Jessica Schmidt (Commack, N.Y./Commack) and
Devin Tracy (Great River, N.Y./East Islip) won at flight one, 8-6, defeating Vivian and Kreklau. Freshman
Sara O'Brien (Orangeburg, N.Y./Tappan Zee) and junior
Allie Starke (Binghamton, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) earned the flight two win, beating sophomore Madeline Simpson and freshman Mattie Kidder, 8-6.
