NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 non-conference decision to the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday afternoon at the North Tennis Courts, marking the Hawks' first loss of the 2015-16 season.
New Paltz drops to 4-1 overall with the loss and next competes at the Vassar Tournament tomorrow at 8 a.m. RPI rises to 2-1 overall with the win and is in action next from Saturday-Monday, Sept. 26-28, at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Championships hosted by William Smith College.
RPI swept through doubles play, giving the visitors a 3-0 lead heading into singles action. New Paltz received wins from junior
Olivia Ammirati (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington), sophomore
Carol Tyson (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Rhinebeck) and senior
Laura Tierney (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) at flights one, three and four of singles, respectively, but the Engineers wound up winning the match by capturing the other three flights.
