NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team dominated the courts to overtake Catskill Cup rival SUNY Oneonta in the second day of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Pool Play.
New Paltz currently leads Oneonta in the Catskill Cup series 2-0.
The meet up marks the commencement of the first annual rival series between New Paltz and Oneonta. Each match up victory is awarded two points and the school with the most points at the end of the year will win the Catskill Cup. The winning school will maintain the trophy on its campus for the subsequent academic year.

Brittany Grandville (Tappan, N.Y./Tappan Zee) and sophomore
Carol Tyson (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Rhinebeck) kicked off the doubles action with an 8-6 win in the first flight. Junior
Olivia Ammirati (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) and senior co-captain
Laura Tierney (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) defeated their opponent 8-0 in flight two. Junior
Liz Palmer (Woodstock, N.Y./Cazenovia) and junior
Maryann Badura (Harriman, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) won flight three 8-3.
Ammirati took out her opponent in flight one singles 6-1, 6-2 while Grandville swept flight two 6-0, 6-2. Tyson won 6-2, 6-1 in flight three with Tierney taking flight four victory in 6-0, 6-0. Senior co-captain
Allie Starke (Binghamton, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) came out victorious in a hard fought flight five match up, winning 7-5, 7-5. Palmer rounded out the singles play in flight six with a 6-0, 6-3 win.
The Hawks close out the weekend tomorrow when they face off against SUNY Plattsburgh at 10:30 a.m.
