RIO PIEDRAS, P.R. – The No. 3 State University of New York at New Paltz men's volleyball team suffered its first loss of the 2016 campaign on Friday evening, falling, 3-2 (24-26, 17-25, 26-24, 25-19, 15-12), to the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras in the Gallitos' home gym.
 
New Paltz falls to 1-1 overall with the loss and finishes up competition in Puerto Rico tomorrow with two neutral-site matches against the University of Turabo (3 p.m.) and the University of Puerto Rico-Carolina (7 p.m.).

The Hawks hit at a .287 clip (59-26-115) for the match and finished with 13 total team blocks.
 
Sophomore outside hitter Anthony Bonilla (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz) keyed the attack with 14 kills, while senior outside hitter Andy Fishman (Cornwallville, N.Y./Cairo-Durham) and junior middle blocker Steven Woessner (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) added 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Senior setter Christian Smith (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) enjoyed a standout match with 41 assists, six total blocks and four service aces, while senior libero Kevin Nardone (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber) tallied eight digs.
