PETERSBURG, Fla. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's swimming team rang in the New Year on Sunday morning, placing third out of five teams with 74 points at the St. Pete's Classic in St. Petersburg, Fla., as a part of its annual Florida training trip. The meet's format consisted of nine relays.
New Paltz earned one first-place finish on the day, as the quartet of junior
Austin Kowalsky (Bellmore, N.Y./W.C. Mepham), sophomore
Caleb Treadwell (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) and seniors
Ethan Cooke (Middletown, Conn./Middletown) and
Will Koenig (Highland, Calif./Redlands East Valley) combined for a time of 1:30.06, which included a 21.29 split from Koenig on the anchor leg.
New Paltz returns to dual-meet action on Friday, Jan. 15, when it visits SUNY Cortland for a 4 p.m. meet.

Colin Duell (Glens Falls, N.Y./Glens Falls) and junior
Matt Alfultis (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) posted a standard of 3:14.86, while the 200 medley relay foursome of Kowalsky, Lindgren, Treadwell and Koenig charted a time of 1:41.79.
NCAA Division I South Dakota State University topped the field with 118 points, while the College of Wooster and New Paltz finished second and third with 86 and 74 points, respectively. The Illinois Institute of Technology (fourth, 60) and the Catholic University of America (28) rounded out the field.
