Meet ResultsNEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's swimming team dropped a 151-106 decision to SUNY Geneseo on Saturday afternoon at Elting Pool in its final tune-up before the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships.
New Paltz won three individual events outright on the day. Senior
Will Koenig (Highland, Calif./Redlands East Valley) won both the 50 freestyle (22.00) and 100 freestyle (49.32), while sophomore
Barrett Celecki (Barneveld, N.Y./Holland Patent) topped the field in the 1,650 freestyle (17:29.66).
In addition, New Paltz scored first-place points in the 400 individual medley and the 400 freestyle relay by virtue of Geneseo marking its entries as exhibition in the meet's final two events. Freshman
Joe Galante (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) scored first-place points in the 400 individual medley (4:40.22), while the 400 freestyle relay contingent of junior
Austin Kowalsky (Bellmore, N.Y./W.C. Mepham), sophomore
Caleb Treadwell (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland), senior
Ethan Cooke (Middletown, Conn./Middletown) and Koenig scored first-place points in the 400 freestyle relay (3:15.56).
New Paltz drops to 4-3 with the loss and next competes at the SUNYAC Championships from Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 18-20, at Erie Community College's Burt Flickinger Aquatic Center in Buffalo, N.Y. Geneseo rises to 9-1 with the victory and next hosts the Geneseo Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 12 p.m.
Second-place finishes came from senior
Ryan Lindgren (Hurley, N.Y./Kingston) in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.54) and the 200 breaststroke (2:18.43) and junior
Rob Cahn (Bellmore, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) in the 500 freestyle (5:04.39). Sophomore
Nick Wills (Stratford, Conn./Stratford) scored second-place points in the 400 individual medley (4:47.34) by virtue of Geneseo marking its entries as exhibition.
Of note, Geneseo established two pool records, as freshman Troy Miller bettered the facility standard in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.38, while junior Kevin Schaub lowered the pool record in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:54.33.
