BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team swept doubles play and two singles matches to defeat SUNY Oswego, 5-0, on Saturday morning in the quarterfinals of the 2016 SUNYAC Tournament held at the Binghamton Tennis Center.
The junior tandem of
Brittany Grandville (Tappan, N.Y./Tappan Zee) and
Carol Tyson (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Rhinebeck) defeated their opponents, 8-0, in first flight doubles. Senior
Olivia Ammirati (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) and junior
Emi Lewis (New York City, N.Y./NYC Lab School) earned an 8-1 victory in flight two while sophomore
Lindsay Haley (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) and freshman
Victoria Zezula (Ridgewood, N.Y./The Mary Louis Academy) swept flight three, 8-0.
Grandville and Tyson both won their singles match to clinch the win for the Hawks with Grandville winning flight two singles, 6-0, 6-0, and Tyson winning flight three, 6-0, 6-0.
The Hawks (5-2) move on to the semifinal round of the tournament and will play SUNY Plattsburgh tomorrow at 12 p.m.
