BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team advanced to the 2016 SUNYAC Championship match with its 5-1 victory over SUNY Plattsburgh in the semifinals on Sunday afternoon at the Binghamton Tennis Center.
The Hawks (6-2 overall) will now take No. 1 West seed SUNY Geneseo in the finals, tomorrow at 10 a.m.
This is the 15
th-straight year that the Hawks have advanced to the championship match and are looking to hoist their first SUNYAC title since 2010.
Senior
Olivia Ammirati (Huntington, NY/Huntington) won at flight one singles 6-1, 6-1 while junior
Carol Tyson (Clinton Corners, NY/Rhinebeck) picked up the flight three win, 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore
Lindsay Haley (Hicksville, NY/St. Anthony's) earned the flight five win, 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles action, Ammirati and junior
Emi Lewis (New York City, NY/NYC Lab School) won at flight two, 8- while Haley and freshman
Victoria Zezula (Ridgewood, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) defeated their flight three opponents, 8-3.
