POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team opened the spring portion of the season with an 8-1 defeat at the hands of No. 32 Vassar College on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Hawks drop to 6-4 overall and will pay a visit to the Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday, April 6 for a 3:30 p.m. match-up. Vassar rises to 5-2 overall and heads out west to play California Lutheran University on Sunday, March 13 at 12 p.m.
The Brewers swept doubles play before taking five of six flights in singles play to take home the victory.
Sophomore Carol Tyson (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Rhinebeck) earned the Hawks' only win of the day, defeating sophomore Morgan Fitzgerald, 6-4, 4-3 in flight three singles. Junior

Laura Tierney (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) fell, 8-1, in flight two doubles to seniors Kelsey Van Noy and Lauren Stauffer. At flight three, freshman
Lindsay Haley (Hicksville, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and sophomore
Emi Lewis (New York City, N.Y./NYC Lab School) dropped an 8-1 decision to junior Connie Yoo and sophomore Dasha Ivenitsky.
