HOBOKEN, N.J. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team earned a 6-3 victory over the Stevens Institute of Technology in the Ducks' season finale on Wednesday afternoon.
The Hawks improve to 7-4 on the year and move on to host Ithaca College at the North Tennis Fields on Friday, April 8 at 3:30 p.m. The Ducks conclude their season, 8-4.
Junior
Olivia Ammirati (Huntingdon, N.Y./Huntingdon) and sophomore
Emi Lewis (New York City, N.Y./NYC Lab School) earned New Paltz's only win in doubles play as the pair defeated their opponents, 8-5, in flight two but Stevens held a 2-1 lead heading into singles action.
The Hawks won five out of six flights in singles play to win the match. Ammirati took victory in flight one, 7-5, 7-5. Sophomore
Brittany Grandville (Tappan, N.Y./Tappan Zee) took flight two 6-1, 6-2, while senior
Laura Tierney (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) won flight three, 6-0, 6-2. In flight four, Lewis fought a hard battle but ultimately defeated her opponent, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, while freshman
Lindsay Haley (Hicksville, N.Y./St. Anthony's) won, 6-3, 6-3 in the fifth flight.
Junior
Kirsten Delvecchio (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt) rounded out the line up in flight six, dropping a 6-0, 6-1 decision to her opponent.
