ONEONTA, NY – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team improved to 2-0 in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) East Division action by defeating host SUNY Oneonta 9-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Overall, the Hawks move to 3-0 and will head to SUNY Plattsburgh for a SUNYAC East match on Friday, Sept. 16 at 3:30 p.m.
With the victory, New Paltz leads the Red Dragons 2-0 in the Catskill Cup standings, an annual rivalry series established in 2015-16. Last season, Oneonta snuck by with a 23.5-21.5 overall win.
In singles action, senior
Olivia Ammirati (Huntington, NY/Huntington) won a tough first flight match 6-1, 7-6. Junior
Brittany Grandville (Tappan, NY/Tappan Zee) also endured a battle at the second flight with a 7-6, 7-5 win and junior
Carol Tyson (Clinton Corners, NY/Rhinebeck) enjoyed a 6-0, 6-0 win at flight three.

Emi Lewis (New York City, NY/NYC Lab School), sophomore
Lindsay Haley (Hicksville, NY/St. Anthony's) and freshman
Jessica Reich (Edgewater, NJ/Leonia) all registered wins at flight four, five and six, respectively.
In doubles action, Grandville and Tyson notched an 8-4 win at number one while Ammirati and Lewis defeated their foes at number two with an 8-2 victory. Haley and freshman
Victoria Zezula (Ridgewood, NJ/The Mary Louis Academy) claimed an 8-4 win at number three.
