NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team lost a hard fought 5-4 match over SUNY Geneseo on Friday afternoon.
This was a rematch of last season's State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament Final, which the Knights won 5-0.
The Hawks' record now stands at 4-2 and the team will next travel to William Smith College to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Tournament starting tomorrow and running through Monday.
In singles action, senior
Olivia Ammirati (Huntington, NY/Huntington) won a close first flight match 7-5, 4-6, 6-2. Junior
Brittany Grandville (Tappan, NY/Tappan Zee) also won a tight contest at flight two 6-1, 1-6, 6-2. Sophomore
Lindsay Haley (Hicksville, NY/St. Anthony's) recorded the Hawks' other singles win at flight five 7-6, 0-6, 6-3.
Junior
Carol Tyson (Clinton Corners, NY/Rhinebeck) lost a tough match at flight three 6-4, 2-6, 2-6. Junior
Emi Lewis (New York City, NY/NYC Lab School) and freshman
Jessica Reich (Edgewater, NJ/Leonia) lost their matches at flight four and six, respectively, as the two teams split singles competition.
In doubles action, Haley and freshman
Victoria Zezula (Ridgewood, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) won New Paltz's lone doubles match 8-4 at flight three. The duo of Grandville and Tyson fell at flight one 8-3, while Ammirati and Lewis lost their match at flight two 8-2.
