The Hawks led in the first set 6-4 before the Eagles responded with an 8-6 run of their own to claim a 12-10 lead. New Paltz trimmed this disadvantage to one (12-11) but after this moment Concordia used a 13-3 spurt to take the opener, 25-14.
The second stanza was closer for New Paltz but still not in favor for the visitors as the Hawks fell 25-21. Following two kills from Bonilla and one from senior Steven Woessner (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa), the Hawks led 10-7 and remained ahead 14-12 after a Roessler kill. Concordia battled back and knotted the set at 14-14 and again at 18-all.
Kills again off the hands of Bonilla and Woessner helped the Hawks tie the contest at 19-19 and 20-20 but the Eagles enjoyed three kills and two attacking errors by New Paltz to close out set number two.
Despite jumping out to a 6-2 lead in the third and final set, the Hawks were unable to extend the match and fell 25-17. Trailing 8-6, New Paltz responded with a 3-0 spurt after two kills from Roessler to go ahead again 9-8. But this was the last time the Hawks saw the lead as the Eagles went on a 17-8 run to close out the match.
