Box Score Rochester, NY – In the first of four-straight nonconference match ups, the State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team fell to St. John Fisher College 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Hawks fall to 4-6, while the Cardinals improve to 9-1. This victory marked the ninth-straight win for St. John Fisher.
"Early in the game we struggled to deny their forwards the ball," SUNY New Paltz head coach
Shanna Szablinski said. "Fishers' forwards were extremely explosive and shot the ball effectively and with power and speed. It took us time to organize our defense and we were unable to come back even though we had plenty of opportunities. We need to take more chances in our circle and be prepared to redirect the ball line."
The Cardinals opened the scoring in the ninth minute on a goal by freshman Bre Socker. Senior Emily Markarian made it 2-0 at the 11:25 mark when her initial shot was saved by senior
Megan Gangewere and Markarian slapped the rebound into the cage.
In the second half, sophomore Lindsay Scott scored St. John Fisher's third goal of the game in the 60
th minute off a penalty corner from Socker.
Junior
Samantha Ackerman recorded her SUNYAC-leading fourth defensive save before Scott scored to keep it a 2-0 game.
The Hawks were out-shot 22-18, but held a 12-7 advantage in penalty corners.
