Box Score Danbury, CT – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team went on the road and took on No. 25 Western Connecticut State University Wednesday and fell, 4-0.
The Colonials earned their first goal in the fifth minute after Andrea DeVoe put away a pass from Autumn Sorice. Sorice then doubled her team's lead in the 28
th minute with an unassisted goal.
Western Connecticut (12-0-2) went into halftime with a 2-0 advantage and took just 18 seconds into the second half before finding the back of the net again, with Sorice tallying her second score.
Aileen Maloney capped off the night for the Colonials in the 49
th minute, with Allison Oakley picking up the assist on the play.
"Second half we came out flat, gave up two quick goals and chased a 4-0 game instead of grinding out a two-goal deficit," said Hawks coach
Mike Eckberg. "We need to take pride in our back line, dig in and grind. We cannot continue to expect something to happen. We have to make it happen."
Western Connecticut held the slight advantage in shots, 15-13, but SUNY New Paltz, which dropped to 4-10-1 on the year after the loss, earned four corners to the Colonials two in the game.
Megan Tornatore earned the start in net for the Hawks and recorded four saves.
After five-straight road games, SUNY New Paltz is back home Saturday hoping to end a three-game losing streak against rival SUNY Oneonta at 1 p.m.
"We need to be wiling as a team to hold a higher standard and keep everyone accountable to that standard," Eckberg added.
